Spring Semester Review and Summer Plans

Woot so I am finally done with school for this semester. This was in many ways one of the more enjoyable semesters that I have had. I had some really interesting classes, and had a great time taking them. So any way here is the break down.

AE 320 AEROSPACE FLIGHT MECHANIC: I was expecting this course to be very difficult, as it is one of my first major classes, and it is technically a course in rocket science. To my surprise the majority of it was all just basic plug and chug. I also like the pace of this course, we would cover a chapter, have a week to do the homework and then have a test after every two chapters. So at the end of the semester this was one of my more liked courses. Already got the grade back on this one and was surprised that I got a B+, must have had something to do with the final being worth 50% of our grade, and me kicking ass on it.

ASTR 310 Astrobiology: This course I took because the description of it in the course ledger sounded interesting so I figured why not. That and I needed another class to fill my schedule. Any way I like this course, we covered various aspects of astronomy and some biology. It was also interesting to look at the different data that had been collected on planets and moons in our own system and the high likely hood of us finding life here.

ENGL 401 CHILDHOOD'S LITERATURE: Took this as I needed a course, this fit in my schedule, and it covered an upper division GE requirement. I expected this course to be fairly easy going in, and even more when I got the book list and saw a lot of picture books and the like. Overall this was my main slack course, even though we had to write 5 essays over the course of the semester.

ISCOR 320 INT SECURITY NUCLEAR AGE: Another upper GE course I took this semester. This was another slack course as we had no real homework for it. All we had to do for it was three tests, covering different sections of the course, and a simulation exercise as different groups. My group was the US, and we basically had the EU as our own personal bitch. At the same time the Iran group did a good job of representing Iran I think as that was a hard country to do, as you are essentially being the bad guy. I was surprised though by one of Syria’s group member damn near got tossed out of the final debate we had.

PHYS 196 Physics II: Fairly straight forward course in physics. I was fortunate enough to pull off two perfect scores back to back on the first two tests. Third got an 8.9 which was not to bad I thought. Fourth I bombed hard, though I expected that as I really did not study that much and sort of just said fuck it. Last test though I did pretty decent, and since our lowest got drop and replaced with our average test score managed to get a grade equivalent to a C+ even before the final. So I’m expecting a B, but could get as high as an A.

So now on to what I have planed for summer break. Right now I am planning on taking two classes over at Palomar, a digital photo course and pilot ground school. Photo course I had originally planed to take last summer, but there was not enough time between the swim class I was taking and the photo course to change, and get over to the class. Also I really felt the course was a little over my head, however I recently found a nice photo primer done by a model building buddy of mine that basically was a good intro into photography and how to work a camera and what stuff does what. So expect me to have my camera on me for most of the summer as you never know when a good shot is going to pop up. As for the ground school I would hope that is pretty self explanatory as to why I am taking it, however just to be sure. I am taking it as I want to get a pilots license. I think it will be a good thing to have on a resume, and it could potentially help get me a job as a test pilot or something along those lines.

The other major summer plan is Anime Expo and Comic Con. Again I am planning on doing the four and five day full smash for both of them again this year. Hopefully this year I can go to Comic Con and not be completely out of it due to a cold, which really sucked last year. As for AX, currently I am planning on driving as when I am expecting us to be leaving the con at night will be later then the trains run, and because I don’t know about reliable transport from the station to the con. The other reason is the stuff issue, as I know everyone likes having a place to stash stuff when they want to go eat and such or they don’t want to carry it any more. So based on my calculations I believe I can get two trips up to LA and back on one tank of gas, with a little wiggle room, about 3 gallons worth. The only day I see us potentially getting stuck in traffic is the first day going up, Friday I believe, and the last day going, the following Monday. Now Comic Con I expect to be the same as every year so no worries there.

So I think that is it for now, I hope to post back again before the cons but you never know.
